user guide
Using Mastrly.
Mastrly is designed to be easy to use. Here is a simple guide to get you on your way.
01
First time setup
- When you first open Mastrly you will be asked to provide your licence key. The key is stored on your device, so you should only need to do this once, unless you switch to a different computer or mobile device.
- Once that’s done you will be prompted to select your cloud storage provider, Dropbox or Google Drive. Mastrly works equally well with both, so use whichever you prefer, and make sure you have adequate storage for your mixes and masters.
- Follow the prompts to sign in and grant Mastrly the required permissions, and to create the Mastrly folder. This folder lives at the top level of your Dropbox or Google Drive.
Important: Mastrly can only ever access files in the Mastrly folder, and cannot see anything which it did not create. This means you should always use the Mastrly user interface to add, rename or delete files.
02
Uploading mixes and masters
- Mastrly organises your work into clients, projects and folders.
- Start by creating a new client and setting its name. The client appears in the tree view on the left of the screen.
- Next create a project for this client and give it a name. The tree view shows the project below the client.
- You can attach notes to both clients and projects — for example, contact details or technical requirements at the client level, and session notes or revision history at the project level. Client and project notes require the standard or pro edition.
- Mastrly automatically creates an empty folder called
Filesinside every new project. You can rename this folder and create additional folders, either at the project level or inside another folder. - The folder structure is shown in the tree view, below the project. Use the disclosure triangle to expand or collapse clients, projects and folders.
- To add files, select a folder in the tree view, then click or tap on the add files button. If you are on a desktop computer you can also use drag-and-drop.
-
Mastrly supports many different file types:
- Audio files such as WAV, FLAC and MP3
- CD masters in the DDP format, either as individual files in a folder or as a ZIP file
- PDFs and images
- You can listen to audio files and inspect any metadata using the built-in player.
03
Versions
- Mastrly automatically detects different versions of the same audio track in a single folder, and lets you and your client cross-fade between them in the player.
-
Versions are detected in three ways:
- Files with different names but the same artist and track title in the metadata
- Files with the same name but different date and time
- Files with the version number in the filename (e.g.
My song v1.wav,My song v2.wav)
- When Mastrly detects multiple versions of a track, it shows the version number in a bubble next to each one.
- When the version number is in the filename, that number is used. Otherwise versions are numbered by file date and time, starting with the oldest.
- When playing any version, click on a different version number to smoothly cross-fade without interrupting playback. Cross-fading of versions requires standard or pro edition.
04
Sharing with your client
- You can create a sharing link from the main project page.
- First select which files and folders you want to share, and decide if you want to allow clients to download audio files.
- You can also add a note which will be displayed to the client when they open the link.
- Once you have created a sharing link, you can use the Preview button to open it in a separate tab.
05
Starred and archived projects
- Click the star symbol next to a project to add it to the starred projects list above the tree. Click again to remove it.
- Once a project is complete, you can move it to the archive section to keep the main user interface clutter-free.
- Archiving a project simply hides it from the main view. The folders and files are all preserved, and any sharing links are still usable.
- Archived projects can be viewed and un-archived using the archive section at the bottom left of the screen.
06
Settings
- Click on the settings link in the top right of the screen to open the configuration screen.
-
Settings are organised into tabs:
- Appearance lets you select a colour scheme for the user interface. You can also cycle through the themes by clicking on the eye icon in the top right of the user interface.
- Client branding (standard and pro editions) lets you customise the look and feel of the player that the client sees when they open a sharing link. You can upload your logo, add text and links, and choose a colour scheme to match your own web site. Press the Preview button to see how it will look.
- Data lets you control automatic downloads, and also the size of the local cache. The cache stores uploaded and downloaded files on your device to save network traffic and make things as fast as possible.
- About lets you set up your name and contact details, and also manage your licence key.
